The Jones Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Northside - Pinetown Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Jones struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Mariners had 16 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Jones ended up on the wrong side of a tough 91-71 walloping at the hands of the Mariners. Jones has struggled against the Mariners recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Jones got a solid performance out of Gabriel Butler, who went 6 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 34 points and 2 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Butler has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylen Williams, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Northside - Pinetown scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Southside 85-57 at home. Northside - Pinetown has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 20 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Northside - Pinetown to victory, but perhaps none more so than Griffin Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last four games he's played. Nick Moore was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
Jones has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Northside - Pinetown, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-6.
Jones took a serious blow against the Panthers when the teams last played back in January, falling 71-42. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Jones was down 38-15.
