The biggest upset of the week belonged to Soledad, who took down 618th ranked Pacific Grove, 40-23.
Marina was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in Mission Trail. Earlier in the week, Marina triumphed over Marina 49-0.
Stevenson's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. John Jackson threw for 54 and two touchdowns and Clayton Archer had 30 yards receiving. On the ground Stephen Hotta chipped in 104 yards. Seth Klein helped Stevenson's passing attack out by catching one ball for 11 yards.
Jack Bournes made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Pirates topped Greenfield. The sophomore pulled down one interception, forced one fumble, recorded one fumble and grabbed 1.0 sack.
Gonzales's Sergio Baez and Rhett Panziera have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Baez has thrown for 427 yards this season, while Panziera, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has nine catches for 146 yards. Hotta from Stevenson leads the league in rushing with 331 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Carmel takes on second place Stevenson. Last week, Carmel bested the Spartans, while Bruce Dini's team beat the Bruins.
The Aztecs moved up to 578 from 632 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Mission Trail. Soledad was able to make the jump by beating the Breakers 40-23.
