Lyman Hall and Cheshire are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Trojans are taking a road trip to square off against the Rams at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lyman Hall comes in on ten and Cheshire on eight.
Lyman Hall is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Hamden, who was ranked 25th at the time (Lyman Hall was ranked second). The Trojans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Green Dragons on Friday. The game was the first time the Trojans have beaten the Green Dragons on their field since May 17, 2018.
Meanwhile, Cheshire got the win against Naugatuck on Saturday by a conclusive 8-1. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Stephen Fitzmaurice tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Luke Mann, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Bennett Crerar, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Cheshire hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in seven consecutive games.
Lyman Hall pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Cheshire, their record is now 9-3.
Lyman Hall was able to grind out a solid win over Cheshire when the teams last played back in April, winning 6-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
