Basketball Recap: Arcadia Starts Season with Win on the Road + How To Watch

Arcadia had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They enjoyed a cozy 44-25 victory over the Peninsula Catholic Knights on Tuesday. The Firebirds have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Knights, too.

Arcadia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Amani Hope led the charge by putting up 17 points and seven steals. Megan (Boo) Montross was another key player, earning 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Arcadia was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Peninsula Catholic only posted six.

Peninsula Catholic's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Autumn Baker, who posted six points in addition to 14 boards and four blocks. With that strong performance, Baker is now averaging an impressive 9.2 rebounds per game. Michaella Goins also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Peninsula Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Arcadia won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Seaside Christian Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Peninsula Catholic, they will challenge Hampton Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
