2A District 1 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Hennessey's Octavio Pina recorded the longest rushing play in 2A District 1 this season in his game against Perry last week. Pina ran for 79 yards on the play and finished with 155 on the day as his team topped the Maroons.
Alva extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Pawnee, 55-3. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Hennessey's dynamic duo of Dylan Hatchel and Edgar Fierro proved tough for Perry to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hatchel threw for 98 yards and two touchdowns and Fierro had 61 yards receiving. Steven Lott helped Hennessey's passing attack out by catching three balls for 37 yards.
Bryce Stewart was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 16 carries, he ran for 241 yards as Chisholm bested Craig Hixon's team. Teammate Brock Chance added to the ground attack by rushing for 68 yards.
Austin Swann made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Longhorns beat Crooked Oak. The 6-foot-1 sophomore recorded one fumble.
The Maroons' Kale Hixon and Darreal Williams have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 2A District 1 in both passing and receiving yards. Hixon has thrown for 651 yards this season, while Williams has 15 catches for 330 yards. Stewart from Chisholm leads the league in rushing with 765 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Alva takes on Newkirk. Ryan Laverty's team is in first place, while the Tigers are in fourth place.
Tonkawa moved up to 135 from 162 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Buccaneers climbed the ranks as a result of a 27-0 win over Newkirk.
