Basketball Recap: Springfield Piles Up the Points Against Maurepas

In Wednesday's Canine Competition, Springfield came out on top. They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat the Maurepas Wolves 55-27. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Springfield found their leader in sophomore Cameron Culbertson, who went 8 for 12 on her way to 20 points and four steals. Culbertson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Raylan Smith, who posted 12 points along with five boards and four steals.

Springfield is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points per game. As for Maurepas, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.

Springfield will welcome Sumner at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Springfield is facing Sumner at the right time seeing as Sumner is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Maurepas, they will venture away from home to face off against Family Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Family Christian's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Maurepas has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.
