Stevensville unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Frenchtown Broncs on Tuesday.
Evan Montague was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Montague was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Montague wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Shane Ayers, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Joey Wheeler was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases.
The victory (which was Frenchtown's fourth in a row dating back to last season) raised their record to 3-0.
