Whetstone is a perfect 10-0 against Mifflin since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Braves will look to defend their home field against the Punchers at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mifflin will be up against a hot Whetstone squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Braves never let Columbus International get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Monday. 15 seems to be a good number for the Braves as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Meanwhile, Mifflin waltzed into their match on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Cougars.
Wilfred Torres and Adrian Hernandez made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Torres struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs but no hits. Meanwhile, Hernandez struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Torres went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Hernandez got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Francis Awuah, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Mifflin's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Benny Villegas, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI and one stolen base.
Mifflin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .606 or higher in three consecutive games.
Mifflin pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Whetstone, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.
Whetstone beat Mifflin 7-3 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Do the Braves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Punchers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
