It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Cocoa Beach Minutemen ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They slipped by Merritt Island 70-69. Winning may never get old, but Cocoa Beach sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
It was another big night for Jay Matthews, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 10 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Cocoa Beach's points. Another player making a difference was Max Louis, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Merritt Island's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jayce Brandes, who scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Hudsom Blank was another key contributor, scoring 25 points along with 7 rebounds.
Cocoa Beach now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Merritt Island, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cocoa Beach will face off against Brevard Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Merritt Island's road trip will continue as they head out to face Eau Gallie at 7:30 p.m. on December 8th. Hopefully Eau Gallie focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Thursday.
