FOREST, Miss. -
Forest (Miss.) and
Newton County (Decatur, Miss.) both received superb games from their defenses, but Forest was able to break through the stalemate for a 10-7 win.
The Bearcats scored on a field goal and a rushing touchdown to pull out the win.
The lead that Forest took on a field goal by
Alex Leon with 3:00 to go in the second quarter stood up for the duration of the game, as neither team managed to score in the second half.
Newton County's lone touchdown came on a 68-yard run by
Jacob Edwards in the second quarter.
The win was a nice bounce back for FHS, which lost to Jackson Prep last week, 34-7. The defeat comes as a step back for Newton County, who notched a 33-21 victory over Kosciusko in its previous outing. The loss ended Newton County's three-game winning streak. The victory snapped Forest's two-game losing streak.
Forest (2-2) goes up against Kosciusko in a non-conference game matchup next week, while Newton County (3-1) locks horns with West Lauderdale also in a non-conference game.
