Highland Tech extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 10-7. They came up short against the Burns Bulldogs, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-0 on Monday.
Highland Tech saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Messick, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
As for Burns, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
On Burns' side, Laney Morris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Morris has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, Burns got a massive performance out of Laney Williams, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Alivia Smith, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Highland Tech will challenge East Gaston at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Burns, they will face off against Shelby at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Golden Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.6 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
