5A Region 2 recap October 22, 2013
Taylorsville extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 2 this week by beating Cottonwood, 14-9. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Hunter took down Hillcrest 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Mckay Meidlinger threw for 131 yards and 1 touchdown during the win.
The Wolverines' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Valu Kupu chipped in 116 yards. Noah Togiai helped Hunter's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 42 yards.
Ikaika Ete was the best receiver in the league this week as Hunter topped the Huskies. Ete tallied 1 reception for 43 yards. Togiai helped Hunter's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 42 yards.
Scott Henderson's team's Meidlinger and Togiai led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Meidlinger has thrown for 1,310 yards this season, while Togiai has 39 catches for 667 yards. West's Isi Pupua leads the league in rushing yards with 730.
An important game coming up in 5A Region 2 this week will be when Taylorsville takes on the Panthers. Rodney Wells' team is in first place, while West is in fourth place.
Keith Lopati's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,606 from 6,667. The improvement was the result of a 44-14 victory over Granger last week.
