Even though the Penns Grove Red Devils have not done well against the Overbrook Rams recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Penns Grove came out on top in a nail-biter against Overbrook and snuck past 51-48. The victory was all the more spectacular given Penns Grove's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while Overbrook is ranked 72nd).
It was another big night for Giomar Conrad, who scored 12 points. The contest was his third in a row with at least ten points. Mekhi Ballard was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Penns Grove and bumps their season record up to 4-5. As for Overbrook, their loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 5-3.
Penns Grove will be playing at home against Gloucester Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Gloucester Catholic and Penns Grove are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads. Overbrook is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Pitman at 5:30 p.m. on January 10th.
