If Monte Vista was feeling good  fresh off their  55-6 takedown of Ignacio last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pirates fell just short of the Centauri Falcons by a score of  20-18 on Friday. The Pirates' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
 Despite the loss, Monte Vista still got an impressive performance from   Kelby Mondragon, who rushed for 75 yards and one  score, and also picked up 51 receiving yards. Mondragon didn't just play on offense: he also made seven total tackles and defended one pass.  Azariah Hurtado also helped with two touchdowns in total.
 Centauri's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but  Dallyn King led the charge by rushing for 75 yards and one  TD on only seven carries. King got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 51 yards.  Carson Shawcroft was another key player, gaining 39 total yards and two touchdowns.
Monte Vista's  defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 6-3. As for Centauri, the  victory was  the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-1.
 Monte Vista does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Centauri, they will be playing in front of their home fans against North Fork  at 1:00  p.m.  on Saturday.
