The Goessel Bluebirds had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 56-27 victory over Wakefield. Given Goessel's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while Wakefield is ranked 316th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wakefield's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Grace Rohr, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and two steals, and Paige Smith who scored ten points. That was a full 37% of Wakefield's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Goessel has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Wakefield, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.
Goessel won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Little River at 1:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Goessel is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Wakefield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rural Vista [Hope/White City] at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Wakefield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 on Friday.
