The Hermon Hawks will head out to square off against the Old Town Coyotes at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hermon will be strutting in after a victory while Old Town will be coming in after a defeat.
Hermon will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Mount Desert Island, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Hawks came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 7-3 on Monday. The game was the first time the Hawks have beaten the Trojans on their field since April 23, 2019.
Maddox Kinney made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single hit any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Edgar Leclerc, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Cam Morrison, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Old Town fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Mount Desert Island on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 3-2. The loss was the Coyotes' first of the season.
Old Town saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Closson, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Jackson Brawn also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Old Town fell to 3-1. As for Hermon, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hermon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Old Town struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Hermon couldn't quite get it done against Old Town in their previous meeting on Tuesday as they fell 4-1. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
