Decatur fought the good fight in their overtime game against Tri-Cities on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 95-89 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tri-Cities Bulldogs. One positive for Decatur, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Decatur lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Quintavious Strozier, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. Strozier continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Welborn, who went 8 of 17 en route to 18 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Decatur was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Tri-Cities' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jalan Wingfield led the charge by dropping a double-double on 27 points and 13 boards. Those 27 points gave Wingfield a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sean Vandorn, who went 8 for 18 on his way to 22 points in addition to six rebounds and four blocks.
Decatur's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-7. As for Tri-Cities, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-3.
Decatur wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 63-39 defeat against Greenforest on the 18th. Tri-Cities has also already played their next contest, a 69-65 loss against Newton on the 20th.
