The Regents Lions will face off against the Westover Christian Academy Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Regents is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Regents is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs last Thursday, they were much more limited against Western Albemarle last Friday. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 3-2.
Tucker Jamison made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Westover Christian Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Timberlake Christian on Wednesday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Tornadoes. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won four matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Colt Cromy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Jay Miller was a standout: he earned three runs and five stolen bases. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Elijah Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Westover Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Regents dropped their record down to 8-6 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Westover Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Regents has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Westover Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
