Orland's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. Everything went their way against the Corning Cardinals as they made off with a 16-7 win. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Kiera McKenzie was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). McKenzie was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella McDermott, who went 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Emma Cutshall was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs and one triple.
Orland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .596. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
With the victory, Orland broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-5. As for Corning, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-16.
