Roosevelt's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ehis Idoni, who rushed for 120 yards and four scores on only 11 carries, and Cj Barker, who threw for 200 yards and four TDs on perfect 6-for-6 passing. Idoni's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 120 rushing yards. Another rusher making a difference was Mikey Rodriguez, who rushed for 52 yards and one touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Roosevelt was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 214 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 214 rushing yards in three consecutive games.
Roosevelt didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Kasai Reams and Daniel Martinez, who each picked up one interception apiece. Another thorn in Fresno's side was Julian Maldonado, who picked up a sack and made seven total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Exeter played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Immanuel, falling 49-7. The Monarchs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.
Roosevelt's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.0 points over those games. As for Exeter, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-5.
Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. Roosevelt has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 212.9 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Exeter, though, as they've been averaging only 97 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Roosevelt was able to grind out a solid victory over Exeter when the teams last played back in November of 2024, winning 23-16. Will the Rough Riders repeat their success, or do the Monarchs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
