Fort Lauderdale is 0-4 against Western since March of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Fort Lauderdale Flying L's will be playing in front of their home fans against the Western Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Fort Lauderdale's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Western's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Fort Lauderdale had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Taravella on Monday. Fort Lauderdale put the hurt on Taravella with a sharp 11-1 win. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Flying L's this season.
Kylie Keenan made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Fort Lauderdale got a massive performance out of Quinn McFadden, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave McFadden a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tannar Keenan, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Fort Lauderdale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Western put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Cypress Bay by a score of 4-1.
Ali Solo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, Western saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kennedy Butter, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Fort Lauderdale's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Western, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fort Lauderdale has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Western struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fort Lauderdale couldn't quite finish off Western in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 2-0. Will Fort Lauderdale have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
