The Horatio Lions''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They fell 29-20 to Gurdon. Horatio lost against Gurdon in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 35-8 score last time.
Despite the defeat, Horatio saw an underclassman step up: Riley Williamson rushed for 164 yards on only ten carries, and also threw for 110 yards and two touchdowns while completing 73.7% of his passes.
Gurdon found their leader in underclassman Xavier Laster, who rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Laster was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards.
Gurdon's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Jake Rowan and his three sacks.
Horatio's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. As for Gurdon, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
Horatio will head out on the road to face off against Junction City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Gurdon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Smackover at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
