Basketball Recap: River Valley Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Max Persichetti and Jacob Pynos

River Valley was the 51-38 winner over West Shamokin when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The River Valley Panthers fell 62-49 to the West Shamokin Wolves on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 424th, while the Wolves are ranked 125th).

Despite the defeat, River Valley had strong showings from Jacob Pynos, who went 7 for 11 on his way to 19 points, and Max Persichetti, who posted 19 points and seven assists. The match was Persichetti's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Bryson McDowell was another key player, putting up eight points and five rebounds.

River Valley's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for West Shamokin, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-2.

River Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 79-48 defeat against United on the 8th. As for West Shamokin, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 49-44 victory against Conemaugh Township on the 8th.
