The Whetstone Braves will head out to square off against the Bishop Watterson Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Whetstone has four straight wins, Bishop Watterson has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Monday, Whetstone made easy work of Mifflin and carried off a 17-3 victory. The Braves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by ten runs or more this season.
Gabby Millane looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit.
At the plate, Lily Loman-Antoine and Bella Hittle did most of the damage at the plate: Loman-Antoine went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Hittle went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Loman-Antoine has posted over her last nine matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Alena Synadinos, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Bishop Watterson came up short against Upper Arlington on Saturday, falling 21-3.
Bishop Watterson saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Abens, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Jackie Kirk also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Bishop Watterson's defeat dropped their record down to 8-16. As for Whetstone, their win bumped their record up to 13-11.
Whetstone's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Braves have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Bishop Watterson, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Whetstone continue to outrun the ball?
