The Santa Margarita Eagles and the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Santa Margarita Eagles had to settle for second. They took a 37-20 bruising from the Trailblazers. Santa Margarita just can't catch a break and has now endured three defeats in a row.
Santa Margarita's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of John Gazzaniga, who rushed for 28 yards and a touchdown, and Trent Mosley who gained 103 total yards and a touchdown.
Sierra Canyon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dane Dunn led the charge by rushing for 149 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Dunn hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Terrell Cooks jr., who rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
Santa Margarita has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season. As for Sierra Canyon, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Santa Margarita does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Sierra Canyon will head out on the road to face off against Mater Dei at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mater Dei is on a six-game streak of home wins, Sierra Canyon a 11-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
