The Sacred Heart Academy Sharks struggled with assists on Monday (the St. Mary's Lancers had 15 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Sacred Heart Academy was the victim of a tough 77-51 loss at the hands of St. Mary's. Sacred Heart Academy has not had much luck with St. Mary's recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Sacred Heart Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brianna Bonvissuto. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bonvissuto has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Zablocki, who scored five points along with 16 rebounds.
Leading St. Mary's to victory were Kenzie Owens and Emily Mcdonald. Owens went 6 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 0 assists, while Mcdonald dropped a triple-double on 20 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists. It was the first time this season that Mcdonald posted eight or more assists. Jada Mushat was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with four steals.
Sacred Heart Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season. As for St. Mary's, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-6.
Sacred Heart Academy and Mount Mercy Academy will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Mount Mercy Academy is coming into the contest with four straight losses on the road, meaning Sacred Heart Academy will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. St. Mary's road trip will continue as they head out to face Williamsville South at 7:00 p.m. on February 12th. Hopefully St. Mary's is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in New York (they are ranked 15th, while Williamsville South is ranked 267th).
