Baseball Game Preview: Wesson Cobras vs. Port Gibson Blue Waves

For the second straight game, Wesson will face off against Port Gibson. The Cobras will be playing in front of their home fans against the Blue Waves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wesson has six straight victories, Port Gibson has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Wesson is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Port Gibson 25-2 on Tuesday. The Cobras might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by ten runs or more this season.

Wyatt Garrett was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Aiden Wallace was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Parker Brooks, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.

Wesson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .567 or higher in six consecutive matchups.

Wesson pushed their record up to 12-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for Port Gibson, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.

Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wesson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .542. However, it's not like Port Gibson struggles in that department as they've averaged .489. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
