Baseball Recap: St. Joseph Catholic Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

St. Joseph Catholic waltzed into their matchup on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Loyd Star Hornets 14-1. This was payback for the Bruins, who suffered a 7-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Brandon Burkes was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Burkes was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Jackson Winans was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of John Dean D'Antonio, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

St. Joseph Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.8.

St. Joseph Catholic's record now sits at 9-3. As for Loyd Star, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Joseph Catholic will welcome St. Andrew's Episcopal at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Joseph Catholic's pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so St. Andrew's Episcopal's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Loyd Star, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Mize at 3:30 p.m. Loyd Star has given up an average of 8.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
