The Somerset Sky Pointe Eagles will head out to face off against the Cheyenne Desert Shields at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Somerset Sky Pointe is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season.
Somerset Sky Pointe saw some tournament action on Saturday. They managed a 56-50 victory over Pahrump Valley. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
Somerset Sky Pointe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emmitt Bell, who posted 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Cory Gory, who earned 14 points along with seven boards and six assists.
Meanwhile, Cheyenne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 58-54 heartbreaker at the hands of Valley.
Somerset Sky Pointe will need focus on slowing down Igniz Segovia-Gonzalez, one of several Cheyenne players who made an impact when they last played. He dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Segovia-Gonzalez has been hot recently, having posted ten or more boards the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Castile, who went 7 of 8 on his way to 16 points.
Even though they lost, Cheyenne was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Cheyenne's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Somerset Sky Pointe, their win bumped their record up to 7-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Somerset Sky Pointe has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 22.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Cheyenne struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
