Wesson has gone 8-2 against Lawrence County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Cobras will square off against the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Wesson took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Franklin County.
Maddie Sanders made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Sanders was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off three home runs and seven RBI while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in runs (three).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Macy Loy, who scored three runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Kenslie Carter was another key player, scoring two runs.
Wesson lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Lawrence County can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over Salem.
Laicie Bridges spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits.
At the plate, Addie Raye Pennington was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Adaya Ball, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Wesson pushed their record up to 17-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lawrence County, their record now sits at 15-11.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wesson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .380. However, it's not like Lawrence County struggles in that department as they've averaged .312. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wesson took their win against Lawrence County in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cobras since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
