Atkinson County is 0-10 against Turner County since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The pair will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Atkinson County will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
Last Saturday, Atkinson County strolled past Worth County with points to spare, taking the game 51-35.
Atkinson County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ja'Kari Northcutt, who scored 16 points. Northcutt has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamari Moore, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Turner County pushed their score all the way to 56 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Montgomery County 61-56. While losing is never fun, Turner County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 290th, while Montgomery County is ranked 75th).
Atkinson County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Turner County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-9.
Atkinson County was dealt a bruising 61-22 defeat at the hands of Turner County when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Atkinson County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
