The Morrill Lions will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Sutherland Sailors at 6:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Morrill struggled with assists on Thursday (Bridgeport had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Morrill was beaten by Bridgeport 65-29. Morrill has not had much luck with Bridgeport recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Morrill had strong showings from Brooklin Hess, who scored 11 points along with two steals, and Kinzley Hess, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Hess continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Brown, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Morrill struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Sutherland's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 64-33 loss at the hands of Paxton. Sutherland was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-13.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Glory Naughtin, who scored four points along with five rebounds and four steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Fallyn Elfeldt was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Morrill has not been sharp recently as the team has lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-9 record this season. As for Sutherland, their loss dropped their record down to 4-15.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Morrill have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Sutherland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
