6A Region 1 recap October 8, 2013
Tupelo added to the longest winning streak in 6A Region 1 this week by beating Grenada, 34-7. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Southaven was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Hernando. The Chargers came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 28 last week.
Tupelo's dynamic duo of Daniel Bristow and Quinn Tiggs proved to be unstoppable against the Chargers, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Bristow threw for 258 yards and 3 touchdowns and Tiggs had 150 yards receiving. Rodney McIntosh helped Tupelo's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 77 yards.
Olive Branch's Ross Trail and Dontavis Bruce led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Trail has thrown for 1,010 yards this season, while Bruce has 29 catches for 411 yards. South Panola's Darrell Henderson leads the league in rushing yards with 796.
The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between trent hammond's team and Southaven. The Golden Wave enters the contest ranked sixth in the state, while Ed Rich's team ranks 22nd.
DeSoto Central and Horn Lake played the closest game in 6A Region 1 this week, with DeSoto Central eventually emerging with a 27-24 victory. Alan Lamar threw for 4 yards and 1 touchdown, ran for 86 yards and caught 1 pass for 22 yards during the win.
