The Anacostia Indians will square off against the Bell Griffins at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in District of Columbia (Anacostia is ranked 14th, while Bell is ranked tenth).
After soaring to 42 points the game before, Anacostia were a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 26-0 walloping at the hands of Coolidge. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Anacostia in their matchups with Coolidge: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the defeat, Anacostia got a solid performance out of RI?Chard Wheeler, who rushed for 158 yards while picking up 9.3 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, while Bell put up plenty of points two weeks ago, the same can't be said for McKinley Tech. Bell blew past McKinley Tech, posting a 57-0 victory at home. Bell might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won five games by 20 points or more this season.
Among those leading the charge was Antonio` Washington, who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Washington was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Another big playmaker for Bell was Chris Palmer, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
With Anacostia's defeat and Coolidge's victory, both teams now sport identical 5-4 records.
Anacostia couldn't quite finish off Bell when the teams last played back in October and fell 16-14. Can Anacostia avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
