The San Benito Greyhounds will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Saturday, San Benito came up short against Pioneer and fell 45-38.
Meanwhile, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo lost a heartbreaker to Harlingen when they met back in November of 2020, and they left with a heavy heart again on Tuesday. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo took a serious blow against Harlingen, falling 77-50. While losing is never fun, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1467th, while Harlingen is ranked 162nd).
San Benito has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, they bumped their record down to 7-13 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Everything came up roses for San Benito against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 58-31 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Benito since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
