Softball Recap: Highlands Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Highlands lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Henry County, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's game. The Bluebirds' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 15-0 shutout on Friday. Considering the Bluebirds have won 13 contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaitlyn Dixon made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cam Markus, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Class, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Highlands always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Henry County only posted an OBP of .118.

The victory (which was Highlands' fourth in a row) raised their record to 21-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Henry County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highlands will square off against Lafayette at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bluebirds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Generals have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Henry County, they will challenge Gallatin County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
