Ashley Schelling made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Meridian let Madi Kapchinske and Layla Lucas run wild. Kapchinske scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Lucas scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, Lucas posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Emma Childers also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meridian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over Dieterich. Considering Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg has won seven games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Samantha Hayes was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Hayes was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg got a massive performance out of Kendra Hayes, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Mya Friese was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg pushed their record up to 8-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Meridian, their record is now 6-1.
Both Meridian and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg just can't seem to miss. The Hawks have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Meridian skirted past Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 5-4 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
