The Santa Cruz Valley Dust Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 51-12 defeat at the hands of Horizon Honors. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Santa Cruz Valley in their matchups with Horizon Honors: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Santa Cruz Valley saw an underclassman step up: Melody Anguamea scored four points along with eight rebounds.
Horizon Honors found their leader in underclassman Audriana Anglada, who scored 16 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Ana Gracia, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Santa Cruz Valley's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Horizon Honors, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santa Cruz Valley will challenge Sequoia Pathway Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Sequoia Pathway Academy is ranked 297th, while Santa Cruz Valley is ranked 290th). Horizon Honors on the road again on Tuesday and play against Tempe Prep at 5:30 p.m. on January 16th.
