The Conotton Valley Rockets will face off against the Dover Crimson Tornadoes at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Dover will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Conotton Valley extended their winning streak to 16 on Friday. The Rockets' pitcher stepped up to hand Frontier a 14-0 shutout. Conotton Valley's win was all the more impressive since the Cougars were averaging only 1.86 runs allowed on the season.
Maddison Kelley made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Delilah Williams was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gretchin Rolli, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Conotton Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Frontier only posted a batting average of .000.
Meanwhile, Dover got the win against Wooster on Wednesday by a conclusive 8-2. The Crimson Tornadoes haven't had any issues with the Generals recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Like Conotton Valley, Dover also got a great game from a two-way player: Jenna Molk. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Molk was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off three home runs, four RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-3.
Molk wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Charlie Reese, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Avery Contini was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Conotton Valley's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Dover, their win bumped their record up to 18-3.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Conotton Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402. However, it's not like Dover struggles in that department as they've averaged .354. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Conotton Valley couldn't quite finish off Dover in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Rockets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
