After three games on the road, Cristo Rey is heading back home. They will take on the Innovation Academy The Red Tailed Hawk at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Two weeks ago, Cristo Rey had to suffer through a rough 64-36 loss at the hands of Neighborhood House Charter.
Meanwhile, Innovation Academy pushed their score all the way to 68 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Academy of Notre Dame 72-68. Innovation Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Innovation Academy had strong showings from Jayden Ogbeide, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds, and Derrick Twum, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds. That was a full 36.8% of Innovation Academy's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayden Rogers, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Cristo Rey's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Innovation Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-5.
Cristo Rey ended up a good deal behind Innovation Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, losing 64-46. Can Cristo Rey avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
