The Galesburg Christian Lions had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They greeted the New Year with with a 45-27 win over Morning Star Academy. The score was all tied up 19-19 at the break, but Galesburg Christian was the (much) better team in the second half.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Galesburg Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Grace Potter, who scored 25 points. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaela Hall, who scored 16 points.
Morning Star Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Allison Ammann, who scored 12 points. Violet Jewell was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven rebounds.
Galesburg Christian's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Morning Star Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Galesburg Christian will square off against Faith Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Faith Christian's defense has only allowed 26.8 points per game this season, so Galesburg Christian's offense will have their work cut out for Galesburg Christian. As for Morning Star Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Quad Cities Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Quad Cities Christian's defense has only allowed 28.6 points per game this season, so Morning Star Academy's offense will have their work cut out for Morning Star Academy.
