The Monacan Chiefs pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 63-56 to Powhatan. Monacan's defeat continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Despite the loss, Monacan still got an impressive performance from Samuel Sims, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikey Tunstall, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.
Monacan dropped their record down to 9-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Powhatan, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.
Monacan will be playing in front of their home fans against L.C. Bird at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in L.C. Bird's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 12 contests. As for Powhatan, they will head out on the road to square off against Richmond City School of the Arts at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Richmond City School of the Arts will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 328th, while Powhatan is ranked 152nd).
