Desert Mountain recap November 19, 2013
Desert added to the longest winning streak in Desert Mountain this week by beating St. Anthony, 51-27. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Scorpions.
Desert moved up to 438 from 553 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Chris Hinton's team was able to move up by beating the Saints 51-27.
D.J. Payne provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Boron topped Capistrano Valley Christian.
Payne was a force in the backfield as the Bobcats topped the Eagles.
Scott Bonham was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Scorpions bested St. Anthony. He recorded 1 fumble and racked up 4 sacks.
Matthew Moore put up the best numbers through the air as Desert beat Mario Morales' team. He finished with a total of 9 completions for 166 yards and 2 touchdowns. Moore's favorite target this week was Chad Gleason, who caught 3 passes for 106 yards.
Desert's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Scorpions feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Moore has thrown for 1,899 yards and 21 touchdowns this season, while Gleason has 42 catches for 1,062 yards.
Entering into this week's contest against Saddleback Valley Christian, Moore is short just 101 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
Excelsior Charter took down Hamilton 49-15 last week, the largest margin of any game. Nathaniel Rivera threw for 75 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 16 yards in the win.
