Brodhead has won ten straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Turner has won ten straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Cardinals will welcome the Trojans at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Brodhead 1.9, Turner 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
If Brodhead beats Turner with six runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Cardinals never let Evansville get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won seven in a row.
Ava Risum made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
In other batting news, Leah Rear was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Karli Krumwiede, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Brodhead kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Turner and Big Foot meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Trojans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Chiefs.
Like Brodhead, Turner also got a great game from a two-way player: Olyvia Piranio. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Piranio was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Piranio wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emma Bue, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Brodhead's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Turner, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Brodhead has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Turner struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
