Clarksdale scored a stunning upset when it knocked off West Point, 39-34. At the time, the Green Wave were ranked 18th in the state, while the Wildcats were 81st.
Clarksdale's Chris Carpenter rumbled for the longest rushing play in 5A Region 1 this season in his game against West Point last week. Carpenter scampered for 71 yards on the play and finished with 77 on the day as his team defeated chris chamblwaa's team.
Brady Davis threw for 275 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was 16-25 with 2 interceptions.
Coleman Mullins was a key player and the best on defense this week as Center Hill fell to New Hope. The 5-foot-11 senior nabbed 2 interceptions.
Melvin Stephenson was the best receiver in the league this week as the Wildcats defeated the Green Wave. Stephenson tallied 3 receptions for 153 yards.
6-foot-4 quarterback Davis of the Trojans is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,540. He has also thrown 13 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Ryan Golden. The Lake Cormorant star has 28 catches for 563 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Saltillo takes on Clarksdale. At the moment, the Tigers are in second, while the Wildcats are in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Oxford takes on Lewisburg. The Chargers have allowed 77 points this season, while the Patriots have given up 119. Oxford allowed 7 points last week as it topped Saltillo.
Pat Byrd's team was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after falling to Johnny Hill's team. The Tigers came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.
