The Richmond Spartans will take on the Wellington-Napoleon Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Richmond and six for Wellington-Napoleon.
On January 4th, Richmond was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 51-45 to Pleasant Hill.
Meanwhile, Wellington-Napoleon came up short against Excelsior Springs on Monday and fell 40-30.
Despite the loss, Wellington-Napoleon had strong showings from Brilynn Zykan, who scored five points along with five rebounds, and Melanie Thornburg, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. That was a full 36.7% of Wellington-Napoleon's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Richmond's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Wellington-Napoleon, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
Richmond was dealt a bruising 74-16 loss at the hands of Wellington-Napoleon in their previous matchup back in January of 2021. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Richmond was down 53-8.
