Grand Island and Lincoln East are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. Grand Island will host Lincoln East at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are still undefeated (Grand Island has three wins , while Lincoln East has six dating back to last season).
On Friday, Grand Island needed a bit of extra time to put away Omaha Central. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Eagles 17-16.
Grand Island let Sam Dinkelman and Sam Schroeder run wild. Dinkelman scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances, while Schroeder went 4-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. What's more, Dinkelman posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Trent Verplank was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Grand Island lost a few balls and finished the game with five home runs. They launched three more home runs than Omaha Central's also-impressive total of two.
Meanwhile, Lincoln East got the win against Columbus on Saturday by a conclusive 11-1. Fans of the Spartans have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Trevor Roach looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Troy Peltz, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Carter McPeak, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Lincoln East pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Grand Island, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
Both Grand Island and Lincoln East just can't seem to miss. Grand Island has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 13.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Lincoln East struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Grand Island might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Lincoln East in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Grand Island have more luck at home instead of on the road?
