The Sahuaro Cougars won the last time they faced the Sabino Sabercats, and things went their way on Thursday too. Sahuaro blew past Sabino 64-31 at home. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Sahuaro.
Sahuaro's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cassandra Coolidge, who scored 23 points along with 4 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Coolidge has scored at least 25% of Sahuaro's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kristen Valdez, who scored 17 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Sabino's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayda Haley, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds. Haley scored a full 41.9% of Sabino's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Haley Hunter, who scored 3 points along with 9 rebounds.
Sahuaro's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Sabino, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.
Sahuaro will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Mary's at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Sabino, they will head out on the road to face off against Empire at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
