If The South Houston Trojans were feeling good off their 41-13 takedown of the Sam Rayburn Texans two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. South Houston was dealt a 72-27 loss at the hands of Dobie on Friday. While losing is never fun, South Houston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 609th, while Dobie is ranked 158th).
Cameron Mathews was his usual excellent self, rushing for 200 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Mathews is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Damarcus Hodges, who rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries.
South Houston has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for Dobie, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Houston will take on Deer Park at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Deer Park knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matchups -- so hopefully South Houston likes a good challenge. Dobie will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Atascocita at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th.
