After a string of three wins, the Holmes Aces's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 49-26 defeat at the hands of Hertford County. Holmes has not had much luck with Hertford County recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Holmes still got an impressive performance from Ellie Spear, who scored 11 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Spear has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hertford County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Adarielle Townsell, who dropped a triple-double on ten points, 13 rebounds, and ten steals. Townsell hasn't dropped below two steals for 15 straight games. Brooklynn White was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight steals.
Holmes' defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Hertford County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Holmes will be playing at home against Northeastern at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northeastern presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Holmes in North Carolina (Northeastern is ranked 81st, while Holmes is ranked 235th). As for Hertford County, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Northampton County at 4:30 p.m. on January 27th. Hertford County is coming into the matchup with six straight victories on the road, so Northampton County is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
